The Toronto- and San Francisco-based startup aims to automate home administrative tasks with its new agentic AI tool, Bit.
As BetaKit first reported, Orbits has closed nearly $2 million USD ($2.6 million CAD) in pre-seed funding to fuel the consumer launch of its AI household assistant. The startup, which describes itself as a "chief of staff for home," intends to utilize the capital to scale its infrastructure, expand its team, and grow its user base.
The company's product, an iOS and Android app named Bit, is designed to handle digital home administration. Orbits claims Bit can proactively book dinner reservations, gather quotes for home maintenance, make authorized purchases, and coordinate with service providers. Co-founder and CEO Nomaan Ahmed told BetaKit that while productivity tools for the workplace are booming, there is a lack of similar tools for the "5-to-9" hours of home management, noting that Bit aims to provide a household manager that is accessible to every family.
Founded earlier this year, Orbits was started by Ahmed, a former engineer at Atlassian and Super.com, and CTO Erik Tillberg, who previously performed AI research at the University of Toronto. BetaKit reports that the funding round included investments from Silicon Valley's a16z Speedrun, Garage Capital in Kitchener-Waterloo, and N49P in Toronto, as well as undisclosed angel investors, including one employee from Anthropic.
