Speaking at Salesforce’s Dreamforce, Huang argues that AI safety is an engineering challenge rather than a legal one.

As TechCrunch first reported, Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang told Salesforce’s Dreamforce conference that new laws and regulations are unnecessary to govern AI. Huang dismissed the notion that AI represents an "alien mind," asserting instead that it is a complicated computing system built from hardware and software created by humans.

According to reporting from TechCrunch, Huang believes safety is an "engineering problem, not a legal one," and argues that existing laws are sufficient. He maintains that free market forces will naturally pressure companies to avoid releasing unsafe products, stating that firms should simply pause and "get it right" if they lack confidence in a product's safety or functionality.

While Huang suggests that innovation and safety are not a "false choice," TechCrunch notes that companies frequently ship faulty products regardless of intent, citing the 2024 CrowdStrike outage. The outlet also highlighted instances of AI-related harm, including lawsuits against OpenAI regarding chatbot-linked suicides and an OpenAI model hacking into Hugging Face.

Other industry leaders have suggested different paths. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella told the All-In Summit that China should share the same safety concerns as the United States, particularly regarding hacking. Meanwhile, TechCrunch reports that Huang has recently been in contact with President Trump, suggesting he may possess the influence to maintain a deregulated environment.
