The new flagship arrives in China featuring a 200-megapixel camera system and an 8,800mAh battery.
Honor has launched the Magic 9 Pro Max in China, marking the company's first flagship release since partnering with camera manufacturer Arri. As first reported by The Verge, the device features a design overhaul centered on a camera island inspired by the 1937 Arriflex 35's three-lens turret.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 powers the Magic 9 Pro Max. While the chip supports 4K240 and 8K60 video recording, Honor told The Verge the device does not support those specific modes, stating the choice of processor was about providing a consistent flagship experience over chasing benchmark results.
The camera system includes a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens and two 200-megapixel lenses: a main lens with a 1/1.28-inch-type sensor and a 3.5x telephoto with a 1/1.4-inch sensor. Through the Arri collaboration, the phone supports the APV 10-bit 4:2:2 codec, 14 preset Arri Look LUTs, and Arri LogC3 shooting. The device also includes a cinema-grade directional microphone and a square-format selfie camera capable of landscape or portrait capture.
To accommodate these features, Honor utilized a space-efficient camera island to fit a large 8,800mAh battery containing up to 40 percent silicon content. The phone is available in silver, black, and mossy green. While the device is currently launching in China, Honor has confirmed an international release is planned, though a date has not been set.
