President Trump establishes a new task force and shifts terminology while major tech CEOs sign a 'morally binding' but non-binding safety agreement.

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order officially rebranding artificial intelligence as “super intelligence,” according to TechCrunch. This semantic shift coincides with a White House gathering of major tech executives, including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, who signed an AI safety pledge that Trump described as “morally binding.” However, TechCrunch reports the pledge is non-binding.

Furthering this shift, Trump announced the creation of the Super Intelligence Force via Truth Social. The task force is designed to ensure U.S. global leadership in the field, which Trump compared to the Industrial Revolution and the internet. According to reporting from The Wall Street Journal, the force will be chaired by National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton, with Vice Chairs including Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson, Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor, and Undersecretary of War for Research and Engineering Emil Michael.

The task force has 120 days to produce a report on the risks and opportunities of the technology. Its charter specifically aims to develop responses to threats while preventing “overregulation and regulatory capture” that could hinder competition. Jay Clayton told The Wall Street Journal that a primary risk is the United States “not being first” as competitors like China advance.
