The discovery of two bodies in separate vehicle fires within 90 minutes signals a disturbing escalation of targeted violence across the city.

Toronto is grappling with a chilling escalation of violence following two nearly simultaneous homicides involving burning vehicles. According to reporting from CBC Toronto, police discovered the bodies of two men in separate vehicle fires occurring just an hour and a half apart.

On Monday, officers responded to a vehicle fire in a field near Reesor Road and Steeles Avenue E. in Scarborough, where they found the body of 32-year-old Marcus Charles. Shortly after, just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to a parking lot near Edenbridge Drive and Royal York Road in Etobicoke. There, they discovered the body of 30-year-old Mohamud Kheyre, who had been badly burned.

Det. Sgt. Henri Marsman told CBC Toronto that both incidents are being investigated as homicides. While police have not confirmed a direct connection between the two deaths, Marsman noted that both victims were targeted and killed before their bodies were burned. One vehicle was reported as stolen from the Greater Toronto Area, while the other was a rental.

These deaths mark the 27th and 28th homicides in Toronto for 2026. While Det. Sgt. Marsman stated there is no safety risk to the general public, the nature of these targeted killings suggests a level of brutality that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
