The province will implement regulatory changes to align northwestern regions with Manitoba, ending twice-annual clock shifts.

Ontario is preparing to move portions of its northwest region to permanent daylight time. According to reporting from CityNews Toronto and Global News Toronto, the move is intended to align the region with Manitoba.

Greg Rickford, the Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation of Ontario, stated that there is overwhelming consensus regarding the permanent change among businesses, First Nations, and municipalities. Rickford noted that the province plans to implement a regulatory change to the Time Act on Nov. 1, enabling regions west of the 90th meridian to synchronize with Manitoba.

The shift follows a similar move by Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew, who announced last month that his province would remain on daylight time year-round in the central time zone, effectively placing Manitoba one hour ahead of other Prairie provinces.

Other western provinces have taken similar steps. CityNews Toronto and Global News Toronto report that Alberta switched to permanent daylight time this year—referred to as "Alberta time"—aligning it with Saskatchewan year-round. Furthermore, British Columbia stated in March that it would shift to permanent Pacific Daylight Time.
