Kioxia Debuts CXL Memory Expansion to Tackle AI Bottlenecks
The new XL1 series leverages XL-FLASH technology to bridge the gap between DRAM and SSDs for memory-intensive workloads.
Kioxia Corporation is introducing a new hardware solution aimed at alleviating memory capacity shortages and rising costs in AI-driven data centers. As reported by the Financial Post, the company is showcasing the KIOXIA XL1 series, a memory expansion module compatible with Compute Express Link (CXL).
Designed for hyperscale environments, the XL1 series utilizes Kioxia's XL-FLASH technology to bridge the performance and cost gap between conventional DRAM and SSDs. By shifting less frequently accessed data onto the expansion module via a CXL interface, the system improves DRAM utilization efficiency.
Kioxia is exhibiting the technology at the FMS: the Future of Memory and Storage event in Santa Clara, California, from August 4 to August 6. The company expects to ship evaluation samples of the XL1 series to industry ecosystem collaborators in August 2026.
