The open-air celebration brings immersive art, fashion, and poetry to one of Toronto's most stylish neighbourhoods.
The seventh Yorkville Murals Festival (YVM) is set to transform Toronto's poshest neighbourhood into a massive street party from Saturday, Aug. 22 to Sunday, Aug. 23, as BlogTO first reported. Centered around the theme of 'Joy,' the event is expected to draw over 70,000 visitors, according to BlogTO.
Alan Ganev, Founder and Creative Director of YVM, stated in a release that the festival aims to integrate culture into everyday city life through a blend of music, poetry, photography, fashion, and visual art. Key installations include "The Sunset Garden," presented by AMEX, featuring a massive wraparound courtyard mural by artist Ola Volo at the Taglialatella Galleries. The event also features an immersive installation from Milan-based TOLIETPAPER Magazine and a 20-foot installation by City of Toronto Poet Laureate and Dub Poet Lillian Allen.
BlogTO reports that the festival will also showcase multidisciplinary fashion through RCHIVE, with emerging designers Maya Ali, Alexander Nicholson, and Zoe Stone creating avant-garde collections in a live studio setting. Additionally, the Crybaby Gallery, curated by Mony Zakhour, will see artists Moises Frank, Matthew Walton, and Joshua Advincula create large-scale 3D artworks in real time along Yorkville Avenue. These works will be displayed publicly before being made available for purchase.
