Through an aggressive expansion of micro-fulfillment centers, Flipkart Minutes is narrowing the gap with established instant-delivery pioneers.

Walmart-owned Flipkart is rapidly scaling its quick-commerce arm, Flipkart Minutes, to compete with established Indian market leaders Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy's Instamart, as TechCrunch first reported. According to the reporting, Flipkart Minutes is now processing between 1.1 million and 1.2 million orders daily, a significant increase from the 390,000 to 400,000 orders seen in November.

This growth is driven by a massive investment in infrastructure. TechCrunch reports that Flipkart has expanded its network of micro-fulfillment centers to between 1,020 and 1,050 facilities, up from roughly 340 a year ago. The company is adding approximately 100 facilities per month, targeting a total of 1,500 by the end of 2026.

Satish Meena, an adviser at Datum Intelligence, told TechCrunch that Flipkart's ability to leverage its existing e-commerce customer base provides a distinct advantage. This expansion is viewed as both offensive and defensive; Meena noted that e-commerce giants risk losing transactions to specialists if they cannot match the speed consumers now expect.

Flipkart is not the only global player pivoting. TechCrunch reports that Amazon is also expanding its Amazon Now service, which CEO Andy Jassy stated is the company's fastest-growing business in India. Amazon aims to establish over 1,000 micro-fulfillment centers and expand into more than 300 cities.

While Flipkart is gaining ground, the market remains competitive. Datum Intelligence estimates Blinkit leads with a daily volume of 3.4 million to 3.6 million orders, followed by Zepto with 2.4 million to 2.6 million. Swiggy's Instamart, which Flipkart is currently closing in on, delivers roughly 1.4 million orders a day.
