On Nov. 12, 2022, Wang, 31, was killed in a plaza parking lot near Midland Avenue and Passmore Avenue in Scarborough. CityNews Toronto reports that police were called to the scene at 6:29 p.m. following reports of "unknown trouble," where they found Wang had been shot at close range by a suspect who approached his vehicle. Det. Sgt. Sajeev Nair of the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit noted that Wang was a father, husband, and carpentry business owner.
Investigators spent months with few leads and no suspect description. According to CityNews Toronto, the case shifted in July 2026 after detectives released security footage of a man walking the same route used on the night of the murder, as well as an artist's rendering based on a recent eyewitness account.
On Aug. 14, 2026, police released further footage of the suspect, whom investigators believed went by the name "Jay." CityNews Toronto reports that investigators are also looking into a potential link between this case and a March 10, 2023, attempted murder that occurred in the same plaza, which left another victim seriously injured. Police have not yet confirmed if Longshaw is connected to the 2023 shooting.
On Tuesday, Longshaw made an appearance in a Toronto court. Detectives continue to seek witnesses or video evidence related to both the 2022 homicide and the 2023 attempted murder.
