Eight Australian startups will compete for a spot at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco.

Stripe has partnered with TechCrunch to launch a first-of-its-kind competition in Sydney, according to TechCrunch. The event, titled Stripe x Startup Battlefield, will take place on August 19, where eight selected Australian startups will pitch before global press, investors, and the local tech community.

The competition offers a high-stakes prize for the grand winner: automatic entry into the Startup Battlefield 200 at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, scheduled for October 13–15, 2026, along with $15,000 in Stripe fee credits. Second-place winners will receive $5,000 in Stripe fee credits, while third place will receive $2,000.

TechCrunch reports that the program is seeking promising companies that can genuinely change something, rather than those that are merely polished. While revenue and existing customers are not requirements, applicants must provide a working MVP via video. Isabelle Johannessen, Head of the Startup Battlefield Program, evaluates teams based on their product, market understanding, and founding stories.

Historically, TechCrunch notes that Startup Battlefield alumni—including Discord, Trello, Cloudflare, and Dropbox—have produced over 250 exits and raised $32 billion across more than 1,700 companies. Applications for the Sydney event close on July 20, 2026.
