Overlapping Transit Closures Set to Disrupt Toronto Weekend
Major outages across the TTC, GO Transit, and UP Express will impact commuters on Sept. 19-20.
Toronto commuters face a series of overlapping service disruptions during the weekend of Sept. 19-20, according to reporting from BlogTO.
Metrolinx will close the entire UP Express for the second consecutive weekend to facilitate planned construction. Direct buses will replace train service between Pearson Airport Terminal 1 and the Union Station Bus Terminal, with service suspended at the Weston, Mount Dennis, and Bloor stations.
Additional Metrolinx GO Transit outages include the Barrie line, where service will be halted between Union Station and Downsview Park GO for a second straight weekend. On the Kitchener line, service will be offline from Union Station to Mount Dennis GO; trains will operate between Mount Dennis GO and Mount Pleasant, while select buses will run from Kitchener GO or Stratford to the Hwy 407 Bus Terminal.
Simultaneously, the TTC will replace subway service with shuttle buses on a three-kilometre stretch of Line 1 Yonge-University between College and St Clair stations for planned track work. BlogTO notes that this closure includes the Bloor-Yonge interchange, which may increase congestion at the Spadina and St. George interchange stations.
