Oilers GM Stan Bowman Maintains Calm Despite Training Camp Injury Wave

Edmonton Oilers General Manager Stan Bowman is refusing to panic following a Wednesday announcement that four players will miss training camp due to undisclosed injuries, as Sportsnet first reported.

The injured list includes prized free agent signing Frederik Andersen, top-line left winger Matt Savoie, veteran Mattias Janmark, and defenseman Alec Regula. Speaking with Sportsnet, Bowman stated that while injuries are not ideal, the organization is not as concerned as the media or fan base, noting that such situations are part of the sport.

Regarding timelines, Bowman told Sportsnet that Savoie will miss less time than Andersen, though he declined to provide a specific date for Savoie's return, only noting it would not be half a season. Bowman also addressed Janmark, a 33-year-old veteran who has played 680 games, stating that Janmark played through significant pain last year and is not ready to start the season.

As the team enters a new era under head coach Mike Babcock and assistant coach D.J. Smith, Bowman indicated the team will first look internally for replacements. He specifically cited Ike Howard, Josh Samanski, Quinn Hutson, Eduards Tralmaks, and Aku Raty as players who may now receive a different look during camp. Bowman noted that with ample cap space, he remains open to the market for potential professional tryouts or free agent signings.
