Metrolinx shuts down a key stretch of the city's busiest rail line for construction, forcing a fragmented commute between Aldershot and Oakville.

*(Opinion)* There is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes with the Toronto commute, and as BlogTO first reported, Metrolinx is adding to it this weekend. While the agency frames these disruptions as necessary maintenance, the reality for those on the Lakeshore West line is a recurring cycle of 'planned' chaos.

A significant portion of the Lakeshore West line—the busiest rail route in and out of Toronto—will be shut down for the entire weekend of Saturday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 18, due to planned construction.

The closure effectively splits the line in two. GO trains will run between Union Station and Oakville GO in the east, and between Aldershot GO and Niagara Falls GO in the west. Service will be completely halted between Aldershot and Oakville GO, meaning Appleby and Bronte GO stations will not be served. Additionally, regularly scheduled trains starting or ending at West Harbour and Confederation GO will not run.

To bridge the gap, Metrolinx is deploying shuttle buses between Oakville GO and West Harbour/Aldershot, transforming a seamless journey into a multi-transfer train-bus-train ordeal.
