Watermain replacements and track renewals will trigger significant TTC service diversions starting in November.

Major infrastructure work is scheduled to disrupt one of the TTC's busiest streetcar routes for 10 months, according to reporting from BlogTO. Starting this November, the City of Toronto and the TTC will execute essential improvements along King Street West, focusing on the renewal of streetcar tracks and the replacement of aging watermain infrastructure.

The project is divided into four specific work zones. Between November 2026 and August 2027, construction will take place from Portland Street to Spadina Avenue as well as from Close Avenue to Dufferin Street. Further work is scheduled for the intersection of King and York Street from June to August 2027, and from Shaw Street to Bathurst Street between March 2027 and late 2027. BlogTO notes that this follows a closure of the Dufferin and King intersection last fall for track upgrades.

To manage the disruption, the TTC will implement several service changes effective Sunday, Nov. 1. The 504/304 King streetcars will be consolidated into a single branch running between Broadview Station and Dundas West Station. West of Spadina Avenue, these streetcars will divert via Queen Street West to Roncesvalles Avenue.

Buses replacing the 504C/304C King will run from the Sunnyside Loop at Roncesvalles Avenue to the Distillery District at Front Street East and Cherry Street. Other adjustments include the suspension of 508 Lake Shore streetcars and the westward extension of Route 503 Kingston Road buses to the Dufferin Gate Loop. The TTC stated that Wheel-Trans service will be maintained and that work will be phased to minimize the impact on transit riders, local businesses, and traffic.
