Quantum computing firm IQM will deploy hardware and cloud access at the Eldorado Research Institute.

IQM Quantum Computers (Nasdaq: IQMX) has signed a purchase agreement with the Eldorado Research Institute to install the company's first quantum computer in South America, according to reporting from the Financial Post.

Under the terms of the deal, an IQM Spark system will be installed at the Eldorado Research Institute's headquarters in Campinas, Brazil, during the first quarter of 2027. In addition to the on-premises hardware, the agreement provides the institute with remote access to a 54-qubit cloud-based system located in Europe. This hybrid approach is intended to allow Brazilian researchers and engineers to develop applications locally before migrating to larger-scale workloads via the cloud.

Jan Goetz, CEO and Co-founder of IQM Quantum Computers, stated that the move aims to provide direct access to hardware for a region that possesses the necessary research base and talent. José Bertuzzo, Superintendent of the Eldorado Research Institute, noted that the infrastructure is intended to help Brazil address complex industrial and technological challenges.

According to the Financial Post, this represents the first time a private research institute in Brazil has purchased a quantum computer. The system is intended to be opened to a network of startups, universities, and industry partners to accelerate quantum adoption across the region.
