The dating app's first major acquisition targets HIV prevention as part of a broader push into health and wellness.

Grindr Inc. (NYSE: GRND) has agreed to acquire PurposeMed Inc., the parent company of telehealth provider Freddie, in a deal valued at $250 million in cash and stock, according to reporting from the Financial Post.

The transaction, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, may include an additional $70 million in cash consideration depending on whether specific performance targets are met. This represents the first major acquisition in the history of the company.

Through the deal, Grindr aims to integrate Freddie's PrEP and HIV prevention care directly into its platform via a health and wellness business called Grindr Health. The company is targeting a goal of connecting 10 million LGBTQ+ individuals worldwide to HIV prevention via the app by 2028. Users will be able to access testing, prescriptions, and clinicians within the app, with eligible U.S. patients able to obtain PrEP with little or no cost out-of-pocket.

Grindr CEO and Chairman George Arison stated that the acquisition combines Grindr's reach with Freddie's medical expertise to increase access to PrEP, which reduces HIV risk by approximately 99%. Dr. Husein Moloo, Co-founder of Freddie, noted that the partnership is intended to scale HIV prevention services to millions of users within the app they already utilize daily.
