Funding from the Regional Tariff Response Initiative aims to bolster 31 Greater Toronto Area companies facing trade volatility.

The federal government is providing nearly $26 million to 31 businesses across the Greater Toronto Area to mitigate the impact of an ongoing tariff war with the United States, CBC Toronto reports.

The funding was announced Friday during a visit to Brampton's Daybar Industries Ltd. and is delivered through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative, a program established in March 2025. Evan Solomon, Canada’s minister of artificial intelligence and digital innovation and minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), noted that although Canada did not choose the current trade conditions, the government is committed to building together.

Among the recipients is Daybar Industries, a steel doors and frames manufacturer, which is receiving $700,000 as part of a $12-million project with FedDev Ontario to enhance its supply chain and expand markets. Mark Dodson, president of Daybar Industries, noted the funding supports long-term growth and employee success. Other significant grants include $2,870,729 for printing company SinaLite, $2,532,000 for air quality system manufacturer Oxygen8Solutions Inc., and $1,603,125 for packaging company PakFactory Inc.

Treasury Board of Canada president Shafqat Ali emphasized that the government is focusing on domestic controls to create good-paying jobs. This investment is part of a broader $7.5-billion support package announced by the government in August to assist Canadian businesses affected by U.S. tariffs, which have included import bans on motorcycles, alcohol, and other products.
