With three starters sidelined, Toronto FC faces a systemic crisis heading into a must-win clash with the Red Bulls.

OPINION: Toronto FC is walking into a disaster. After a chaotic 3-3 draw against Orlando City—where goals from Antoine Griezmann and Daryl Dike erased a lead before Matheus Pereira saved a point in the 90th minute—the club's defensive fragility has shifted from a concern to a crisis.

As Sportsnet first reported, coach Robin Fraser is facing a roster nightmare for Saturday's road trip to face the New York Red Bulls. Three starting defenders are expected to be absent: Richie Laryea and Benjamin Kuscevic are out due to yellow-card accumulation, while Walker Zimmerman is sidelined with an ankle injury, marking his third consecutive missed match.

Fraser told reporters on Thursday that the situation is "not easy," though he maintained that the team has players who have earned significant minutes. However, relying on depth during the most important game of the season is a dangerous gamble. TFC currently sits tied for 10th in the MLS Eastern Conference, trailing the Red Bulls and FC Cincinnati by three points for the final two playoff spots.

With four of their final five matches on the road and a desperate attempt to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2020, TFC cannot afford to be porous. If Fraser cannot stabilize a backline missing Laryea, Kuscevic, and Zimmerman, they risk being slaughtered by Michael Bradley's Red Bulls squad.
