By bringing account-based payments into the checkout flow, DCPayments offers a strategic alternative to high-cost credit card processing for B2B transactions.

For Canadian merchants handling high-ticket transactions, the cost of credit card processing is a persistent drag on margins. Digital Commerce Payments (DCPayments), a subsidiary of Digital Commerce Group, is addressing this pain point by integrating the Interac e-Transfer Business Request Money feature directly into the online checkout experience.

According to reporting from the Financial Post, this new capability allows businesses to offer account-based payments alongside traditional credit cards. While Interac e-Transfer is already a staple of the Canadian economy—processing more than 1.6 billion transactions last year—the process has historically existed outside the standard checkout flow. Pamela Draper, President of DCPayments, noted that integrating this feature provides a more efficient payment method while maintaining customer convenience.

From an operational standpoint, the integration solves a significant reconciliation headache. Rather than manually matching incoming transfers to orders via email, merchants can now combine the payment request and transaction status into a single process.

The ROI for merchants is two-fold: cost reduction and risk mitigation. The Financial Post reports that the tool is specifically designed to lower processing costs on higher-value transactions, making it an attractive option for contractors, professional services firms, and education providers. Furthermore, because funds move directly between accounts, the system provides fast access to cash and eliminates the risk of chargebacks, a common vulnerability in credit card processing.
