Chad Kelly Questionable Ahead of Critical Lions Clash
The league's passing leader is battling a right hand injury as Toronto fights for first place in the East.
The Toronto Argonauts are facing uncertainty at the quarterback position heading into Saturday's Week 18 matchup against the B.C. Lions at BMO Field. As Sportsnet first reported, starter Chad Kelly was listed as questionable on the injury report released Thursday.
Sportsnet reports that Kelly missed Tuesday's practice due to an injury to his right hand and saw limited action on Wednesday and Thursday. The injury comes as a surprise given that Kelly played every snap in the Argonauts' victory in Winnipeg last week. Kelly has started all 15 games this season, leading the CFL in touchdowns (33), passing yards (5,067), and interceptions (24), after missing the full 2025 season following a leg injury sustained in the 2024 CFL East final.
If Kelly is unable to start, Sportsnet notes that veteran Nick Arbuckle is second on the depth chart. Arbuckle served as the starter for Toronto last season and led the team to victory in the 2024 Grey Cup during Kelly's absence.
The Argonauts currently hold a 9-6 record as they attempt to catch the Montreal Alouettes (11-3) for the top spot in the East Division. The B.C. Lions enter the contest with an 8-6 record, tied for second in the West.
