Buvette Pacey Announces Closure Amid Rising Toronto Costs

Buvette Pacey, a multi-concept cafe and bar located at 141 Berkeley St., is preparing to close its doors permanently, as BlogTO first reported. Owner and operator Shabri Kapoor announced the decision via Instagram, stating that maintaining the business is no longer "sustainable."

According to reporting from BlogTO, Kapoor opened the neighborhood hangout in 2023 with the goal of creating a space of welcome and belonging. However, the business has been hit hard by a faltering economy, steep rent, and rising overhead costs. Kapoor noted that she refused to compromise on the quality of her products—such as top-grade matcha and house-made syrups—and determined that closing was the only alternative to sacrificing those standards.

Kapoor had previously warned of these financial obstacles in late 2025. While the establishment could shut down as early as October 2026, Kapoor expressed a desire to remain open through the end of the year to celebrate the business's third anniversary. To achieve this, the shop is seeking community support through donations, event bookings, wine subscriptions, and increased foot traffic.
