Sgt. Nair further noted that Wang did not live a "high-risk, criminal lifestyle" and was not involved in gangs, though the motive for the killing remains unclear.
The breakthrough in the case followed several public appeals. CBC Toronto reports that police released a suspect rendering on July 28, created with help from an eyewitness who came forward years after the event. Investigators also released security footage from the day before the murder and additional footage from months later, which led police to believe the suspect went by the name "Jay."
Beyond the murder charge, investigators are examining a potential link to a March 10, 2023, attempted murder that occurred in the same plaza area, which left another victim seriously injured. Police have not yet confirmed if Longshaw is connected to that specific incident, as the investigation continues.
