Internal data reveals a decline in junior technical hires and a rise in meeting time as the AI firm scales.

Anthropic is pivoting its organizational structure away from junior-level technical talent toward a more senior-heavy, coordination-focused workforce, as TechCrunch first reported on a report published by the company.

According to the report, the share of junior-level employees within technical departments fell to 14% from 21% since early 2025. The decline was even more pronounced among junior technical hires, which fell from 27% to 9%. Additionally, technical teams now make up 56% of the total workforce, down from 61%. Anthropic attributes this shift to the natural expansion of business functions during scaling and the ability of non-technical staff to create software using coding tools.

As the company scales, operational overhead is increasing. Calendar data indicates that meeting time per employee has risen by 20% over the past year, with a 16% increase for technical contributors. Anthropic describes face-to-face coordination as "indispensable" for establishing human trust and accountability.

The shift coincides with a transition in how work is executed. While Anthropic reports productivity gains in sales, contract processing, and code volume, some employees describe a shift in their roles. In an April 2026 survey, 20% of employees stated their jobs have moved from performing tasks to "managing Claudes." One employee compared the experience to babysitting, noting that the AI produces a "deluge" of text that requires human judgment, which the report identifies as a potential productivity bottleneck.
