The broadband provider's new hardware certification aims to reduce integration complexity and move toward open software architectures.

Actiontec has announced that its WF-728A and WF-728N Wi-Fi 7 gateways have received prplWare Certification for prplWare 4.2.1, according to reporting from the Financial Post. The certification follows a review by the prpl Foundation’s Certification Review Committee to ensure the devices meet all necessary technical criteria and network functionality requirements.

By utilizing a standardized software foundation, Actiontec intends to help broadband operators lower the complexity of managing various gateway platforms and streamline the integration process. According to the Financial Post, the open software architecture allows for more flexible gateway management and the addition of value-added services, such as security features provided by F-Secure. Actiontec noted that this certification also serves as a basis for the future development of Wi-Fi 8 and other next-generation platforms.

Alex Leibovich, President of Actiontec, stated that the goal is to help providers bring new services to market more quickly while managing operating and integration costs. Leibovich indicated that prplWare Foundation certified products allow providers to expand services with more flexibility, which can lead to improved subscriber experiences and new revenue streams.
